Canadian Cancer Society to highlight the critical role of caregivers in supporting the public health system in Canada

OTTAWA, May 4 /CNW/ - According to a recent poll by the Canadian Cancer
Society, more than 50 per cent of Canadians are concerned about the financial
impact of caring for a sick family member. The Society will host a luncheon to
emphasize to parliamentarians that caregivers are growing in number, that they
are mostly women, and that they are vulnerable financially because of their
care giving role.
Media are invited to a briefing following the luncheon. The Society will
highlight its efforts to support caregivers, including:

    - The economic value of caregivers

    - Compassionate Care Benefit

    - Canadian Caregiver Strategy.
