CALGARY, Dec. 13 /CNW/ - A consortium of Canadian and South African
Entrepreneurs have joined forces to create a multifaceted world-class
destination on the golden beaches of Belize. The founding pilot project,
Belizean Dreams, is a resounding success and the Alberta based development
group has embarked on a second project Hopkins Bay Resort, which consists of
private ocean-front villas that will offer five-star comfort beside the
longest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere - unparalleled access to some
of the best scuba diving in the world "the Blue Hole" - the peace and
tranquility of an unspoiled tropical landscape - aquatic activities including
sea kayaking, fishing, daily visits to the spectacular Mayan ruins, the Jaguar
Preserve, Davis Falls, rain forest excursions and cave expeditions on inner
tubes for the adventurous.
The Hopkins Bay development recently broke ground on the third phase of
precinct number one with plans to start construction on additional phases in
early 2008. The third phase is anticipated to be completed by September 2008.
The Hopkins Bay development has approximately 18 phases with the expected
completion by 2011. Units vary from one to three bedrooms and all feature
unobstructed views of the Caribbean Sea, kitchens with the modern
conveniences, natural stone and hardwood floors, custom cabinetry and wireless
Internet access. In addition to the miles of pristine beaches dotted with
mature coconut palms, the resort will soon offer a marina with access to the
Caribbean, as well as a wide range of amenities and fitness facilities.
"Hopkins Village is an ocean side fishing community in an incredible
tropical location. As the resort is developed, the area will have all the
amenities of home." explains Rob Wilcox, director of sales for the resort.
"Canadians, and particularly Albertans, are very interested in Belize as an
investment opportunity. Belize itself is reason enough to make the trip, but
when you combine that with an ownership opportunity, people really get excited
about the possibilities."
Belize is particularly attractive to North American investors and
vacation home seekers because of its stable, democratic government, easy
access from many major centers in the US and abroad and the fact that it is
the only officially English speaking country in Central America. Belize was a
British colony for more than a century and was known as British Honduras until
1973. Since gaining independence in 1981, it has remained a member of the
