Loblaw remains committed to offering Canadians affordable, healthier
products in communities from coast-to-coast
TORONTO, Feb. 10 /CNW/ - Canadians agree that physical health is their
top priority. In fact, Canadians identified that taking control of physical
health is most important during economic uncertainty according to a recent
Ipsos Reid survey conducted on behalf of Loblaw Companies Limited(1). To help
Canadians take immediate action on their health to achieve their goals with
the new President's Choice(R) Healthy Insider's Report(R) launched across
Canada on February 5, 2009. Offering healthier living tips, menu suggestions
and shopping lists featuring new PC(R) Blue Menu(TM) products, the latest
Insider's Report can inspire all Canadians to get on track.
"We found that 57% of Canadians feel that when they take action to look
better, they feel better(2). They know that good health starts from the inside
out," says PC(R) dietitian Judy Coveney. "Canadians will discover how
delicious, easy and economical making healthier choices can be with the
President's Choice Healthy Insider's Report." That's good news for 80% of
Canadians who also believe they don't need to make a significant financial
investment to achieve their health and fitness goals(3).
When it comes to fueling your body, the PC Blue Menu line has been
helping Canadians eat healthier since 2005. As the official nutritional
partner of the Canadian Alpine Ski Team/Canadian Para-Alpine Ski Team, the
President's Choice team of Product Developers and nutritionists developed and
tested over 50 new PC Blue Menu products with Alpine racers, their coaches and
nutritionists. From scrumptious snacks and ready-to-serve meals, the latest
products from the PC Blue Menu line focus on one or more nutritional criteria
that make meeting specific dietary requirements easier, including: lower fat,
lower calories, high fibre, source of omega-3, soy protein, lower sodium and
whole grains. Now with over 400 healthier products to choose from, including
138 new PC Blue Menu items, the 2009 President's Choice Healthy Insider's
Report is designed to help Canadians achieve their healthy living goals.
"My challenge to Canadians is to take their health into their own hands,"
says Coveney. "This is one area you can control and the President's Choice
Healthy Insider's Report combined with a program like the President's Choice
Healthy Eating Challenge can help."
In its second year, the PC Healthy Eating Challenge encourages healthier
lifestyle choices, challenging Canadians to step closer to their 2009 goals.
For the 45% of Canadians who are stalling on starting a healthy eating and
fitness regimen because they believe it will cost a lot of money(4), they can
access free downloads of full meal plans on pc.ca/challenge in 1,500, 1,800
and 2,100 calories-per-day meal plans with complete shopping lists. "It's
affordable, it's easy to follow and it's totally achievable," continues
To extend these healthier offerings, an exclusive opportunity to assess
cardio health will be available at the Healthy Heart Clinic for one day only,
on February 21 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at participating stores across Canada.
THE DRUGSTORE PHARMACY(TM) will analyze blood pressure and cholesterol
results, enabling the pharmacist to calculate risk of heart disease based on
the Framingham Heart Study. The 1948 study focused on the residents of
Framingham, Massachusetts, and continues to this day. The research gained has
enabled scientists to develop a method of assessing a person's risk of
developing cardiovascular disease within the next 10 years. Prior to
Framingham, cardiovascular disease was thought to be a normal part of the
aging process. Through this study, consumers are now provided with a tool for
prevention and inspiration to make a plan to improve their health.
With physical and financial health at the top of many Canadians'
priorities(5), President's Choice Blue Menu products offer healthier eating
options that are enjoyable and affordable for families. Visit www.pc.ca for
