Canada's Cargo Airports Launch "Cargo Canada" at Air Cargo Americas

Information campaign from 13 airports geared to raise awareness of Canada
as an overseas gateway for cargo to North America

OTTAWA, Nov. 5 /CNW Telbec/ - The Canadian Airports Council and 13 cargo
airport members this week will formally unveil "Cargo Canada," an
informational campaign designed to raise awareness of Canada as a fast,
reliable and cost-effective conduit for air cargo between North America and
the rest of the world. The campaign is being launched at the Air Cargo
Americas trade show in Miami Nov. 7-9.
"For several years, Canada's cargo airports have been raising awareness
of Canada as a gateway for air cargo between North America and the rest of the
world," said CAC President and CEO Jim Facette. "Cargo Canada is a logical
next step, and a fresh new face for our work over the months and years to
come."
"Canada's airports provide fast and reliable access to major metropolitan
markets in both Canada and the U.S.; good examples of this are the new
scheduled international all-cargo services that Canadian airports have
obtained in recent months from Air Canada, Asiana, Cargolux, Cathay Pacific,
Icelandair, Martinair and other cargo operators." said Cargo Canada campaign
steering committee chair Mark Ruel. "While many other nations are experiencing
airport congestion, Canada has invested billions in airport and air traffic
control infrastructure to ensure that we are well positioned for cargo
growth."
With a relatively small economy, Canada is a big trading nation and
trades extensively with the EU, Japan, China, NAFTA partner Mexico and other
parts of the Far East and Latin America. Meanwhile Canada's airports are
within a day's drive of more than two-thirds of North America's population.
Air cargo tonnage in Canada has grown 54 per cent over the last decade,
including a 55 per cent increase in overseas cargo tonnage. Overseas markets
are a primary preoccupation for Canada's cargo airports when it comes to
future cargo growth and make up 40 per cent of Canada's air cargo volume.
Air Cargo Americas is being held at the Sheraton Miami Mart Hotel near
Miami International Airport Nov. 7-9.
