Canada welcomes resumption of Japanese resupply operations in the Indian Ocean



    OTTAWA, Jan. 11 /CNW Telbec/ - The Honourable Maxime Bernier, Minister of
Foreign Affairs, today issued a statement following the Japanese government's
announcement it will resume resupply operations in the Indian Ocean in
February under Operation Enduring Freedom-Maritime Interdiction Operation.
    "Canada welcomes Japan's resumption of refuelling operations in the
Indian Ocean. Canada is grateful for Japan's assistance during Indian Ocean
deployments.
    "Canada and Japan have long been partners in the fight against terrorism,
and the resumption of resupply operations can only foster greater regional
security, particularly in Afghanistan."
