Canada Seeks Energy Investment at 20th World Petroleum Congress

CALGARY, Nov. 21, 2011 /CNW/ - Canadian representatives are putting Canada's energy sector on display in Doha, Qatar where the largest international gathering of energy industry executives meets Dec. 4-8. Here, at the 20th World Petroleum Congress (WPC), industry members of the Canadian Association World Petroleum Council (CAWPC), along with Canadian research institutes, governments and political leaders will be ambassadors for Canada's oil, gas, and alternative energy sector.

Canada's purpose in attending the 20th World Petroleum Congress is fourfold: promotion, cooperation, innovation and investment.

  • Promotion: Representatives will present Canada as a great place to do business with its stable government, security, welcoming regulatory and business environment, rich resources and industry hub, extrapolation technologies, peaceful nation, high quality of life, educated labour force, easy transportation network, convenient access to global markets, and its increasing role as an emerging superpower in energy;
  • Cooperation: Executives will be learning how others approach common challenges and collaborating in solving issues;
  • Innovation: Industry members will be learning about what new technologies, approaches, and resources are being presented at the Congress to solve common challenges;
  • Investment: Most importantly, Canada seeks to secure commitments and interest by other countries and industry partners to invest in the nation's growing energy sector.

What does Canada's energy sector hope to achieve by attending the 20th World Petroleum Congress? Industry members hope to:

  • Educate other nations and industry players to the fact that Canada is open for business;
  • Secure future commitments from international sources that will see Canada as a corporate home base, source for exploration, project partner and investment base;
  • Underscore Canada's prominent place in the world of petroleum producers;
  • Learn about and exchange information about new technologies, expand resource networks and discover business process innovations;
  • Sell products and present new processes and technologies;
  • Co-operate with others to achieve overall industry objectives.

As one of 60 member countries, Canada actively participates in organizing the triennial World Petroleum Congress through the members of the Canadian Association World Petroleum Council (CAWPC).  Sending a delegation, mounting international calibre exhibitions and creating hospitable events to attract additional discussion all involve considerable cost, planning and on-site representation to present Canada abroad. This year's CAWPC event Sponsors include federal and provincial governments, research agencies, as well as private and publicly-traded enterprises.
