Canada China Business Council names international affairs and public policy veteran as new President

TORONTO, Sept. 25 /CNW/ - Canada China Business Council Chair Peter Kruyt
announced today the appointment of veteran international affairs specialist
Peter Harder as President of CCBC. Harder is a member of the International
Institute for Strategic Studies and serves as Senior Policy Advisor to Fraser
Milner Casgrain LLP in Ottawa. He was appointed in 2007 to the Board of
Directors of CCBC.
The new President brings to the Council a wealth of experience and
insight in international issues arising from his 30-year career in
international affairs and public policy with the Government of Canada. Harder
served as a Deputy Minister for 16 years in federal departments including the
Treasury Board, Solicitor General, Citizenship and Immigration, Industry and
Foreign Affairs and International Trade. At Foreign Affairs he served as
Co-Chair of the Canada China Strategic Working Group.
Harder, who replaces the Hon. Sergio Marchi as CCBC President, is an
Honourary Governor of the Public Policy Forum. In 2000, the Governor General
presented Mr. Harder with the Prime Minister's Outstanding Achievement Award
for public service leadership. In 2002, he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II
Jubilee Medal for public service. In 2007, the President of Colombia named
Peter grand master of the Order of San Carlos for his contribution to
international relations.
Marchi stepped down from his CCBC post following his family's recent move
to Geneva where he will pursue interests in both the private and public
sectors.
