VANCOUVER, March 17 /CNW/ - Callinan Mines has mobilized men and
equipment to their Fox River property in Northern Manitoba near Gillam in
preparation for a diamond drilling program. The comprehensive exploration
program will consist of at least 4,000 meters of drilling on targets in the
vicinity of the Fox River Sill, and MMI geochemical surveys on previously
Modern airborne geophysical work has allowed Callinan to isolate targets
in the region that were previously undetected. An Airborne VTEM survey carried
out by Callinan has helped the company define zones of conductivity and
magnetism that could represent sulphide bodies at various depths.
In an effort to prioritize the anomalies isolated by the VTEM survey,
Callinan has employed mobile metal ion (MMI) geochemical technology to better
understand the nature of these occurrences. The initial MMI fieldwork
conducted by Dr. Mark Fedikow in 2007 confirmed anomalous occurrences of
copper, nickel, cobalt and gold ions on seven of 12 areas tested. The MMI
program being conducted in 2008 is designed to further the company's
understanding of the strata formations at Fox River, and to prioritize the
remaining VTEM anomalies for drill testing in this and future programs.
About the Fox River Project:
Callinan's Fox River mineral license is located on a structural extension
of the Thompson Nickel Belt, host of several high grade nickel mines. It is
postulated that the Fox River belt contains folded ultramafic structures
similar to those found in Thompson.
Callinan's land position in the area has increased steadily since their
initial acquisition in 2003. The company currently operates 181,000 hectares
of ground to the North and Northwest of the Fox River Sill. The property is
held under joint venture with Bell Resources.
About Callinan Mines:
Callinan Mines operates under a discovery oriented business model
designed to bring value to the shareholders through new discoveries of base
and precious metals in Canada. The company's exploration activities are
financed through a royalty and net profits interest in operating mines in the
Flin Flon area of Manitoba. The income from these interests allows the company
to maintain a strong capital structure and protect their shareholders from
