CALGARY, Nov. 1 /CNW/ - Calgary Real Estate Board members did their part
to raise awareness, during the month of October, in helping to collect new or
gently loved teddy bears for the Kids Help Phone.
"It isn't surprising to me that Calgary REALTORS(R) have been so
supportive of this very worthwhile program. If there is a strong need within
the Calgary community, you will see REALTORS(R) rise to the occasion, which
makes me very proud of this industry," remarked CREB(R) President, Ron
"Share Your Bear" is an awareness project in partnership with the local
Calgary Police Service's Victim Assistance Unit. All bears are collected,
cleaned, and tagged with the Kids Help Phone (1-800-668-6868) and Calgary
Police Service Victim Assistance Unit (206-8398) phone numbers. The bears are
then given to the local Calgary police to distribute to children immediately
at the scene of an incident to provide initial comfort.
The objective of this project is to expand the "Share Your Bear"
awareness program in Alberta to ensure that children exposed to violence and
crime do not feel alone and also to bring the Kids Help Phone to the forefront
as the main contact for those children and youth, so they can access other
types of support.
"The support for this program just gets bigger every year. It's always
exciting to see REALTORS(R) come into the Communications department and
contribute to our ever growing mountain of stuffed animals; this year we
received approximately 35 huge bags of bears. And it's good to know that at
the end of day, they will bring some comfort to children in our city affected
by crime," said Dawn van der Helm, Communications Supervisor.
