    Inquiry into Pediatric Forensic Pathology in Ontario to hear motions for
    non-publication orders on October 19, 2007, at 9 a.m.

    TORONTO, Oct. 12 /CNW/ - On Friday, October 19, 2007, Stephen T. Goudge,
Commissioner of the Inquiry into Pediatric Forensic Pathology in Ontario, will
hear two motions that request that he issue non-publication orders.
    First, Commission Counsel are requesting that the Commissioner impose a
limited non-publication order to ensure that the Commission hearings comply
with existing non-publication orders that arise under statutes, including but
not limited to the Child and Family Services Act, the Youth Criminal Justice
Act, or the Young Offenders Act, or that were made by courts in earlier
criminal or civil proceedings and that have not expired.
    Second, James Lockyer will be seeking an order to prohibit the
publication of the identities of seven of his clients who have standing at the
Inquiry and the publication of any information that may tend to identify those
seven clients. Mr. Lockyer's factum has been posted on the Commission's
website at www.goudgeinquiry.ca
    The motions will be heard in the Inquiry's Hearing Room on the 20th
floor, 180 Dundas Street West, Toronto.
    The proceedings will start at 9 a.m.

    The Inquiry was created by an Order in Council on April 25, 2007 under
the Public Inquiries Act. The Honourable Stephen T. Goudge was appointed
Commissioner.
    The Inquiry's mandate is to conduct a systemic review and an assessment
of the policies, procedures, practices, accountability and oversight
mechanisms, quality control measures and institutional arrangements of
pediatric forensic pathology in Ontario from 1981 to 2001 as they relate to
its practice and use in investigations and criminal proceedings. The
Commission's mandate does not include reporting on any individual cases that
have been or may be subject to a criminal investigation or proceeding.
    The Commissioner is to make recommendations to address systemic failings
and restore and enhance public confidence in pediatric forensic pathology in
Ontario.
    The Commissioner is to deliver his final Report and recommendations to
the Attorney General no later than April 25, 2008.
