LYNCHBURG, VA, Dec. 5 /CNW/ - Babcock & Wilcox Nuclear Power Generation
Group, Inc. (B&W NPG) is pleased to announce the award of a Replacement Once
Through Steam Generator (ROTSG) contract from FirstEnergy Nuclear Generation
Corp. This announcement is just a week after The Babcock & Wilcox Company
announced that its commercial nuclear generation operations have consolidated
under B&W NPG.
The ROTSG contract includes the design, fabrication and delivery of two
ROTSGs for the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station in Oak Harbor, Ohio. The work
will be performed by Babcock & Wilcox Canada Ltd. (B&W Canada) in Cambridge,
Ontario, a nuclear arm of B&W NPG. Delivery of the two ROTSGs is scheduled for
In addition to the Davis-Besse replacement steam generators, B&W Canada
has contracted with Bruce Power to engineer and manufacture eight CANDU
designed replacement steam generators for the Bruce A Nuclear Power Plant,
Unit 3, located in Ontario, Canada. That contract was announced in August
2007. Nuclear steam generators are critical, highly engineered pieces of
equipment that create the steam required for electrical power generation. When
completed these FirstEnergy units will weigh in excess of 450 tons each and
require over five years to design and fabricate.
