WIND Mobile donates $100,000 to Mr. Wilson's charity of choice, first of
five mega donations to help Canadians have the conversations they never
MOOSE JAW, SK, May 27, 2011 /CNW/ - Today, high school entrepreneurship
teacher Barbara McKinnon had the conversation of her dreams with
Canadian business maverick and philanthropist, W. Brett Wilson.
McKinnon was one of more than 2,500 people to enter WIND Mobile's
competition Best Conversation Ever which asked Canadians "if you could talk to anyone in the world who
would it be and why?" McKinnon believed Wilson would be speaking to her
and her Entrepreneurship students via Skype but Wilson surprised them
by arriving in person.
"This is truly a dream come true for me," said McKinnon. "As an
entrepreneurship teacher and advisor in the Jr. Achievement Program at
Albert E. Peacock Collegiate, I often use examples from Brett's
business life and regularly show clips from Dragons' Den to help teach the students. Actually meeting Brett in person was better
than I imagined and the students loved it too!"
McKinnon is the first of five Canadians who will win their 'best
conversation ever' through the WIND Mobile competition. Wilson, who is
known for the time and energy he gives back to the community and to
charity, was only asked to have a phone conversation with Barbara but
was so impressed with her entry and dedication to her students that he
decided to make the trip personally.
"I am honoured that out of anyone in the world Barbara chose to speak to
me," said Wilson. "It was great to be back in my home-province of
Saskatchewan, and spend an afternoon with a school full of bright,
young minds. Barbara's passion for teaching is evident, so it was a
pleasure to speak with her and her students."
To make these conversations happen, WIND Mobile will donate over a half
a million dollars to Canadian charities. Each of the five personalities
who participate are asked to choose one Canadian charity to receive
$100,000 for a total of $500,000 in donations. Wilson has directed his
donation through Operation: Western Front to the True Patriot Love
Foundation for the benefit of the new Outward Bound Canada Veterans'
Program. In addition to the $500,000, another $100,000 has already been
donated to six Canadian charities in the Best Conversation Ever Charity Challenge.
"There's never been a competition quite like this," said Anthony
Lacavera, Chairman of WIND Mobile. "Best Conversation Ever is giving
Canadians the chance to have the conversations they never dreamed
possible while making a huge difference to several charities across
Canada. Brett Wilson is the first of the five amazing personalities who
has agreed to participate in Best Conversation Ever and we look forward to announcing more conversations very soon."

About Outward Bound Canada and the Veterans' Program
Outward Bound was founded in 1941 by Kurt Hahn, an inspired educator who
had a desire to ignite and sustain the inner strengths of youth. He
developed a philosophy that used adventure and community service as
training vehicles through which youth could mature and develop a sense
of responsibility and compassion. The Veterans' Program offers veterans
the opportunity to share impressions of their deployment or
post-deployment experiences in a completely supportive and like-minded
forum surrounded by the beauty of the Canadian wilderness.
