VANCOUVER, Oct. 9 /CNW Telbec/ - On the heels of two prestigious
distinctions for its people practices, the Business Development Bank of Canada
(BDC) is proud to announce that it has also been ranked amongst Canada's Top
100 Employers for 2008, the second consecutive year BDC has made the Top 100
list. In June of this year, BDC topped Benefits Canada magazine's list of
"Canada's 30 Best Pension and Benefits Plans" and in September, BDC was the
first and only Canadian employer to make the global list of Top Companies for
Leaders, compiled following a study of more than 560 companies from around the
Canada's Top 100 Employers
The annual Top 100 Employers competition, which recognizes employers with
outstanding workplace environments, is conducted by Mediacorp Canada Inc. In
making the list for 2008, BDC was also recognized as one of the Top 10
Employers in Montréal for the second year in a row.
BDC was selected from a group of over 1,500 employers that participated
in the Top 100 application process this year. The recruitment history of over
60,000 employers across Canada was reviewed - and more than 10,000 employers
across the nation were invited to apply.
"The fact that BDC has been recognized with these three prestigious
distinctions in the space of a few months confirms what our people have told
us consistently through engagement and internal satisfaction surveys: our
employees are proud of BDC's mission to support SMEs and they are happy to
work here," said Jean-René Halde, BDC's President and CEO.
"BDC sets itself apart by listening to its employees and taking action to
understand and meet their evolving needs. Our designation as one of the
country's top employers for two years running shows that our approach
continues to foster an environment in which employees can thrive," he added.
Michael Peacock, a Manager, Major Accounts at the Vancouver branch, was
not surprised to learn that BDC was ranked among Canada's Top 100 Employers
for the second consecutive year, and had won other prestigious awards in
recent months. "At one point in my career, I left BDC for an opportunity at
another financial institution. It didn't take me long to realize that BDC's
mission was an important motivational factor for me," he said. Here, I truly
believe that I am making a positive difference for Canadian entrepreneurs and
that makes me happy to come to work each morning."
BDC is a financial institution wholly owned by the Government of Canada.
