Building for the future: Steelworkers ratify new agreement with Ideal Roofing



    OTTAWA, Oct. 6 /CNW/ -United Steelworkers' (USW) Ontario/Atlantic
Director Wayne Fraser announced Monday that an agreement has been ratified by
members of USW Local 8327 at Ideal Roofing Co. Ltd. in Ottawa, where the union
negotiated wage increases of four per cent in each year of a three-year
contract.
    For some employees, those who work as machine operators, shippers and
some other classifications, the start rate has been further increased by
6.6 per cent.
    The union also negotiated improvements in working conditions, including
accommodation for injured workers and language on union representation.
    "This agreement provides the kind of improvements that will help the
company maintain good jobs and continue producing a top-quality product," said
USW Staff Representative David Lipton.
    The workforce of 168, including production and maintenance employees as
well as truck drivers, manufacture steel roofing materials for industrial and
residential applications.
