Brother Group acquires PENTAX mobile solutions division from Hoya Corporation

    BRIDGEWATER, NJ, June 4 /CNW Telbec/ - The Brother Group, a leading
manufacturer and distributor of high-quality printing devices for home, office
and commercial environments, announced today the entry of an agreement to
acquire the worldwide PENTAX mobile solutions business of the Hoya Group. The
PENTAX mobile solutions business had revenues of approximately US$14 million
in its fiscal year ending March 31, 2008.
According to the terms of the transaction the Brother Group will acquire
the following PENTAX product lines:

    - The PENTAX PocketJet(R) Ultra-Portable printers; surprisingly small,
light and effective, full-page printing solutions for on-the-go
      document needs.

    - The PENTAX DSmobile(R) 600 scanner; a powerful, compact, lightweight
600-dpi color scanner is combined with dynamic software to provide
exceptional quality scanning and easy management of documents and
      photos.

"We are very excited to add the mobile solutions business to the Brother
Group's already strong lineup of specialty printing solutions," said Tadashi
Ishiguro, President of Brother International Corporation, USA. "PENTAX's
mobile printers and scanners have a loyal following, due to their outstanding
feature set, ruggedness and ease of integration. We look forward to offering
an industry-leading lineup of mobile solutions, suitable for meeting the tough
demands of various users."
Brother has built a strong business in specialty printing solutions,
including P-Touch and QL on-demand label printers, and M-Print small-format
mobile printers. The addition of PENTAX mobility products supplements the
company's existing line of small-format mobile printers, enhances Brother's
customization and integration capabilities, and allows it to expand into the
letter-size mobile document printing and solutions market. This acquisition
also enhances Brother's solution-provider business through specialized
applications for vertical markets.
Upon completion of the transaction, U.S.-based employees dedicated to
Hoya's mobile solutions business will be invited to become employees of
Brother Mobile Solutions, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Brother
International Corporation, USA. The division is expected to be headquartered
in Golden, Colorado.
The deal is targeted to close on July 31, 2008.
