Brockville residents benefit from new affordable housing

BROCKVILLE, ON, Nov. 5 /CNW/ - Single persons and families will now
benefit from twelve newly renovated apartments; six rental apartments and six
rooming house apartments, on King Street West in Brockville. Today's event
celebrated the completion of much needed renovations and featured tours of the
apartments for community leaders and guests.
The federal government provided more than $250,000 through Canada
Mortgage and Housing Corporation's (CMHC) Residential Rehabilitation
Assistance Program to renovate existing units and convert the non-residential
space into new affordable units.
"Our government is committed to helping create new affordable housing in
Ontario and across Canada for those who need it most," said Gord Brown, Member
of Parliament for Leeds-Grenville, on behalf of the Honourable Monte Solberg,
Minister of Human Resources and Social Development. "Sheridan Mews will
provide safe, affordable housing for vulnerable families, seniors and
individuals in Brockville and help them build a better and stronger future."
"The CMHC grant enabled me to undertake more than $600,000 in renovations
that turned six rental apartments and six rooming house units into new
affordable homes for lower income families. The new housing benefits downtown
Brockville by restoring part of our historic community and has made my complex
a show piece for what private and public partnerships can accomplish," said
Bob Marleau, Property Owner and Manager.
CMHC's Rental and Rooming House Residential Rehabilitation Assistance
Program (RRAP) provides landlords with financial assistance to repair a rental
or rooming house property to a minimum level of health and safety.

As Canada's national housing agency, Canada Mortgage and Housing
Corporation (CMHC) draws on over 60 years of experience to help Canadians
access a variety of quality, environmentally sustainable, and affordable homes
- homes that will continue to create vibrant and healthy communities and
cities a reality across the country. For more information, visit www.cmhc.ca
