Broadcast Consortium announces changes to debate format

OTTAWA, Sept. 30 /CNW/ - The Broadcast Consortium announced today that it
has adjusted the format of the French and English Leaders' Debates to allow
for more discussion about the number one issue on Canadians' minds: the
economy.
Given recent events in the global economy and its impact on Canada the
economy has become a paramount issue. To create more opportunity for the
leaders to respond to questions about the economy, the Consortium has decided
to eliminate the Leaders' opening and closing statements. In addition, the
moderators will take advantage of the flexibility built into the debate format
to allow for more time to be devoted to this important issue.
The French debate will be held on October 1, 2008, at the National Arts
Centre in Ottawa. The English debate will be held October 2, 2008, at the
National Arts Centre.
