YELLOWKNIFE, Aug. 31 /CNW/ - BMO Bank of Montreal opened its new
Yellowknife branch today investing $3.2 million in the city's first
"stand-alone" bank building. The new branch replaces an older branch three
kilometres away in the Centre Square Mall.
The state-of-the-art BMO Yellowknife branch, which is located at 480 B
Range Lake Road, at Old Airport Road, is in a shopping and commercial area
with free parking for BMO customers and convenient access to a variety of
other stores and services.
"The new branch demonstrates our commitment to meeting the growing needs
of our customers in Yellowknife and the surrounding region," said Wes Taylor,
Vice President, South, Central & Northern Alberta and the Northwest
Branch Manager, Janet Porteous and a staff of 17 financial professionals,

larger premises which offer 17 private offices for better customer

- Monday to Thursday 9:30am to 4:00pm
- Friday 9:30am to 5:00pm
- Saturday 9:30am to 4:00pm
The official grand opening celebration for the new Yellowknife branch is
on Saturday, September 12, 2009.
History of BMO in Yellowknife
The Yellowknife branch of Bank of Montreal first opened on June 16, 1969
with six personnel; the manager was Mr. G.L. McRae, the branch located in the
Arthur Laing Building at the corner of 49th Street and Franklin Avenue was a
five-storey structure of steel and precast concrete with the top four floors
occupied by the Government of the Northwest Territories. It was considered the
most modern building in Yellowknife at the time and was fully equipped,
including telex facilities.
In the early 90's the branch moved to another modern building in the
brand new Centre Square Mall, where it is located today. This mall is
considered the largest mall in Yellowknife.
The new branch carries on the tradition.
