Blue Jays sign Eckstein



    TORONTO, Dec. 14 /CNW/ - The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have signed free agent SS
DAVID ECKSTEIN to a one-year contract worth $4.5 million (US).
    ECKSTEIN, 32, spent the last three seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals,
high-lighted by a 2006 World Series MVP Award. The 5'7", 175 lb. shortstop,
appeared in 117 games last season, batting a career high .309 with three
homeruns and 31 RBI. The Sanford, Florida native is the only starting
shortstop to win a World Series in both the American League (Anaheim - 2002)
and the National League. He has appeared in 965 career games, batting .286
with 30 home runs, 285 RBI and 110 stolen bases.
