Blue Jays ink Johnson to one-year deal



    TORONTO, Jan. 2 /CNW/ - The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have signed outfielder REED
JOHNSON to a one-year contract worth $3.275 million (US).
    JOHNSON, 31, posted a .236 average with two home runs and 14 RBI this
past season, in an injury shortened season. The 5-10, 180 lb. right-handed
hitter underwent surgery to repair a herniated disk in early April 2007. The
Las Vegas, Nevada resident is a career .281 with 42 home runs and 234 RBI over
five Major League seasons, all with the Blue Jays. JOHNSON was originally
drafted in the 17th round of the June 1999 First Year Player Draft.
