Blue Jays announce 2008 Webster Award winners



    TORONTO, Sept. 17 /CNW/ - The TORONTO BLUE JAYS are pleased to announce
the following players have been selected as this year's recipients of the R.
HOWARD WEBSTER AWARDS, recognizing the most valuable players at each of the
Club's minor league affiliated teams: LHP DAVID PURCEY, INF SCOTT CAMPBELL, 1B
BRIAN DOPIRAK, LHP MARC RZEPCZYNKSI, RHP ROBERT BELL, INF BALBINO FUENMAYOR, C
CARLOS PEREZ and INF OLIVER DOMINGUEZ.

    
    DAVID PURCEY - 8-6, 2.69 ERA, 117.0IP, 97 H, 34 BB, 121 K.
    6-5, 240, Age-26. Born-St. Charles, IL
    Syracuse Chiefs - International League (AAA)
    -   Syracuse Pitcher of the Month for April (3-1, 1.64 ERA) and July
        (2-0, 2.05 ERA).
    -   Led the International League with a 2.69 ERA.
    -   Allowed only 34 walks and recorded 121 strikeouts over 117 innings
        pitched.
    -   Selected to the AAA All-Star Game and pitched for the International
        League.
    -   Has made 11 starts for the Blue Jays, going 3-6, with a 5.10 ERA.
    -   First round selection (16th overall) of the 2004 draft.

    SCOTT CAMPBELL - .302, 9 HR & 46 RBI
    5-11, 190, Age-23, Born-Auckland, New Zealand
    New Hampshire Fisher Cats - Eastern League (AA)
    -   Named to the Eastern League Mid-Season & Post-Season All-Star as the
        league's top second baseman.
    -   Selected and played in the XM Satellite Radio All-Star Futures Game.
    -   New Hampshire Player of the Month for April (.391, .443 OBP, 25 H,
        2 HR) and June (.346, .480 OBP, 28 H, 17 R).
    -   Led the league in hitting for much of the season, finishing 9th in
        average (.302) and 6th in OBP (.398)
    -   10th round selection of the 2006 draft.

    BRIAN DOPIRAK - .307, 29 HR & 101 RBI
    6-4, 235, Age-24, Born-Tampa, FL
    Dunedin Blue Jays - Florida State League (A Advanced)
    -   Played in the Florida State League Mid-Season All-Star Game.
    -   Named to the Florida State League Post-Season All-Star team.
    -   Belted an organizational high 29 HR...27 with Dunedin, two at New
        Hampshire.
    -   Led the Florida State League in Slugging Pct. (.577) and OPS (.959).
    -   Selected as organizational Player of the Month for July (.301, 11 HR,
        42 RBI).
    -   2nd round selection in 2002 draft (Cubs).

    MARC RZEPCZYNSKI - 7-6, 2.83 ERA, 121.0 IP, 100 H, 42 BB, 124 K.
    6-3, 205, Age-23, Born-Yorba Linda, CA
    Lansing Lugnuts - Midwest League (A)
    -   Lansing Pitcher of the Month for August (2-2, 2.56 ERA)
    -   Selected as Lansing's No.1 pitcher to open the Midwest League
        playoffs.
    -   7th in the Midwest League in ERA (2.83).
    -   Selected in the 5th round in the 2007 draft.

    ROBERT BELL - 0-0, 0.88 ERA, 30.2 IP, 15 H, 0 BB, 43 K.
    6-4, 200, Age-23, Born-Aledo, TX
    Auburn Doubledays - New York-Penn League (SA)
    -   Made his professional debut in 2008, selected in Round 18th round of
        the First Year Player Draft.
    -   Recorded 39 strikeouts and did not allow a walk in 27.2 Innings
        Pitched in Auburn.
    -   Auburn Pitcher of the Month for July (0-0, 1.04 ERA in 10 relief
        appearances)

    BALBINO FUENMAYOR - .307, 3 HR & 26 RBI
    6-3, 225, Age-18, Born-Valencia, Venezuela
    Gulf Coast Blue Jays - Rookie League
    -   Finished 3rd in the GCL with 14 doubles.
    -   GCL Blue Jays Player of the Month for July (.325, 2 HR, 12 RBI).
    -   Signed as an Amateur free agent in 2006.

    CARLOS PEREZ - .306, 0 HR & 29 RBI, 7 SB
    6-0, 200, Age-17, Born-Valencia, Venezuela
    DSL Blue Jays 1 - Dominican Summer League
    -   Led the DSL Blue Jays 1 entry with a .306 average, .459 OBP &
        52 walks.
    -   Ranked 6th in the DSL in On Base Percentage with a .459 mark.

    OLIVER DOMINGUEZ - .305, 5 HR & 39 RBI
    5-10, 190, Age-19, Born-Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic
    DSL Blue Jays 2 - Dominican Summer League
    -   Led the DSL Blue Jays 2 entry with a .305 average, .466 slugging,
        22 doubles & 5 homeruns.
    -   Ranked 13th in the DSL in home runs with five.
