Blue Jays announce 2008 coaching assignments



    TORONTO, Sept. 30 /CNW/ - The TORONTO BLUE JAYS announce the following
changes to the coaching staff for the 2008 season.
    BRIAN BUTTERFIELD, currently the Blue Jays Third Base Coach, will assume
the role of Bench Coach. The 49-year-old has been a member of the Blue Jays
coaching staff since June of the 2002 season. The Standish, Maine resident has
been a Coach or Manager in professional baseball since 1984.
    MARTY PEVEY, currently the Blue Jays First Base Coach, will move to the
position of Third Base Coach. The Springfield, Georgia resident has spent his
entire coaching career with the Blue Jays organization, having spent several
seasons as a Minor League Manager, before being named First Base Coach in
2006.
    ERNIE WHITT, currently the Blue Jays Bench Coach, will takeover as First
Base Coach in 2008. Whitt, a longtime Blue Jays catcher, has been a member of
the coaching staff since the 2005 season and has been an Instructor or Minor
League Manager since 1997 with the organization.
    BRAD ARNSBERG, BRUCE WALTON and ALEX ANDREOPOULOS will continue as
Pitching Coach, Bullpen Coach and Bullpen Catcher respectively. Hitting Coach
MICKEY BRANTLEY will not have his contract renewed beyond the 2007 season.
