Blue Jays add three



    TORONTO, Sept. 8 /CNW/ - The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have selected the contract
of C/1B KYLE PHILLIPS, and have recalled RHP JEREMY ACCARDO & LHP DAVID PURCEY
from Las Vegas of the Pacific Coast League (AAA).

    PHILLIPS, 25, has appeared in 76 games for Las Vegas, posting a .300
average with eight homeruns and 29 RBI. The San Diego, California native will
be joining an active major league roster for the first time.

    ACCARDO, 27, has appeared in 27 games, all in relief for the 51s this
season. The right-hander has posted a 2-1 record with a 3.00 ERA, while adding
13 saves and 27 strikeouts in 30 innings. The Mesa, Arizona native has also
made 19 appearances for the Blue Jays this season, recording a 2.50 ERA in 18
innings, while adding one save.

    PURCEY, 27, began the 2009 season with Toronto, going 0-2 with a 7.01 ERA
in five starts. The left-hander spent the balance of the season with the 51s,
posting a 9-6 record with a 4.46 ERA in 24 starts. The Dallas, Texas resident
held PCL hitters to a .254 average and was 6-3 after the all-star break.
