Blue Jays acquire Kevin Melillo in minor league deal



    TORONTO, June 5 /CNW/ - The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have acquired IF KEVIN
MELILLO from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for cash considerations & have
out-righted IF Hector Luna.
    MELILLO, 26, spent four full seasons in the A's organization after being
drafted in 5th round in 2004. In 429 career minor league games, the Orlando,
Florida native has batted .285 with 53 home runs & 259 RBI. In 38 games with
Sacramento (AAA), this season, is batting .260 with five home runs & 17 RBI.
The 6-0, 190 lb. infielder has been optioned to Syracuse of the International
League (AAA).
    LUNA, 27, has appeared in 41 games with the Chiefs this season, batting
.289 with four home runs & 15 RBI. In two games with the Blue Jays, he
collected a single in his only at-bat.
