RICHMOND HILL, ON, Oct. 8 /CNW/ - Black & Decker Canada is teaming up
with the Canadian Federation of Students and the David Suzuki Foundation to
encourage Canadians to sign-up for David Suzuki's Nature Challenge. For each
person who signs up for the Nature Challenge at
http://www.davidsuzuki.org/NatureChallenge/, Black & Decker will make a $1
donation to support the David Suzuki Foundation and the Students for
Sustainability Campus Tour stopping at 21 universities in just over 30 days.
"Our goal is to have 25,000 people sign up for David Suzuki's Nature
Challenge over the next 30 days," said Greg Wight, Director of Marketing,
Black & Decker Canada. "It's a call to action to encourage students and their
parents to take a step toward thinking more about our environment. Living
green isn't a fad; it should be a way of life for us all."
By accepting David Suzuki's Nature Challenge, Canadians are taking steps
toward a healthier future for the whole planet. Upon signing-up, registrants
will receive monthly e-newsletters full of simple, straightforward tips and
the latest eco-news - they're even entertaining. Green living made fun and
easy!
"We're delighted to have the support of Black & Decker in helping us
spread the environmental word," said Dr. David Suzuki. "We must realize that
we have the power to make changes in our daily lives and we can influence the
people around us. In taking the Nature Challenge, people should feel empowered
to share what they're doing for the planet. Talk to people close to you - your
family, friends, colleagues, and neighbours. And, let them know that they,
too, can help protect nature by making some simple choices."
Dr. Suzuki will make several appearances over the next 30 days along with
a line-up of speakers that includes Stephen Lewis, Severn Suzuki, and
environmental columnist Adria Vasil.
As a part of the tour, Black & Decker will also introduce people to the
Power Monitor, the first product in the Black & Decker Energy Series Category.
A Canadian invention, the Power Monitor was developed to measure a household's
energy consumption and studies show it can save the average Canadian family
approximately $220 a year in energy costs.
"Most people think of energy as invisible -- if we can see energy and
measure energy, we can more intelligently impact consumption," said Rob
Crnkovic, Product Manager, Black & Decker Canada. "Power Monitor gives
consumers the control and understanding of how to make smart choices in their
home to help save the planet and save money at the same time."
An easy to install sensor on the meter outside of the house monitors the
rate of electricity consumption, and transmits this information to the
handheld display monitor inside of the home. Users can program basic
information from their electricity bill into Power Monitor. The Power Monitor
will be available at major retailers across the country in November.
