Bidders Short-Listed For The Credit Valley Hospital Redevelopment Project

    Project Attracts Industry Interest

MISSISSAUGA, ON, June 14 /CNW/ - Minister of Public Infrastructure
Renewal David Caplan today announced five companies have been short-listed to
build and finance The Credit Valley Hospital's Phase II Redevelopment Project.
"We are pleased to see the construction industry's interest in taking
part in this project," said Minister of Public Infrastructure Renewal David
Caplan. "Our government is making much-needed improvements to Ontario's
infrastructure at an unprecedented rate. Competitive interest in public
projects will ensure value for taxpayers' dollars as we build strong,
prosperous communities."
Minister Caplan joined The Credit Valley Hospital President and CEO Wayne
Fyffe, hospital staff, community members and local officials to announce the
short-listed bidders during a sign unveiling event at The Credit Valley
Hospital. Mississauga Centre MPP Harinder Takhar, Mississauga West MPP Bob
Delaney and Brampton West-Mississauga MPP Vic Dhillon also participated.
"This is a sign of our government's commitment to modernize and expand
health care infrastructure to improve access to quality health care," said
Minister of Health and Long-Term Care George Smitherman.

The following companies have been short-listed for this project:

    - Bondfield Construction Co. Ltd.
    - Carillion Canada Inc.
    - EllisDon Corp.
    - PCL Constructors
    - Vanbots Construction Corp.

A Request for Qualifications was issued on April 4, 2007. The process
identified bid teams with the development, construction and financial capacity
required to undertake projects of this size and complexity.
The short-listed companies will be invited to respond to a request for
proposals (RFP) for the project, which is expected to be issued in summer
2007.
"Credit Valley's Phase II project will make a difference in areas that
matter to people in western Mississauga: shorter wait times; better emergency
care; and the ability to handle more births in the maternity suite," said MPP
Bob Delaney.
"This is an exciting time for us as we move forward with our plans to
redevelop The Credit Valley Hospital," said The Credit Valley Hospital
President and CEO Wayne Fyffe. "We will continue to work hard toward meeting
the growing health care needs of our community."

The Credit Valley Hospital project involves a 270,000 square-foot
expansion and renovations to approximately 70,000 square feet. Highlights of
the redevelopment include:

    - Increased capacity from 392 beds up to 471 beds with additional room
       for growth;
    -  doubling the number of labour and delivery rooms from seven to 15;
    - A new high-density radiation therapy suite and resources for expanded
       cancer treatments;
    - An increase in bassinettes from 22 to 37 to facilitate care for
pre-term and other newborns requiring specialized neonatal care.

By increasing services, patients will have better access to the care they
need close to home in comfortable surroundings. The expansion and
redevelopment will allow the hospital to better meet current patient volumes
and the expected volumes in coming years.
Infrastructure Ontario is working with The Credit Valley Hospital to
redevelop the hospital, which will remain publicly owned, publicly controlled
and publicly accountable. Infrastructure Ontario is a Crown corporation
dedicated to managing some of the province's larger and more complex
infrastructure renewal projects-ensuring they are built on time and on budget.
This project is guided by principles outlined in the Province's Building
a Better Tomorrow framework, which ensures public ownership of core assets
such as hospitals, schools, and water and wastewater facilities. The Credit
Valley Hospital project is one of many infrastructure projects being upgraded
and modernized under ReNew Ontario, the government's five-year, $30-billion
plus public infrastructure investment plan.
