OTTAWA, June 16 /CNW Telbec/ - Thirty-five Paralympic athletes will be
hosting the Canadian Paralympic Dreams Event in Vancouver, BC on June 18,
where attendees will be able to bid on a custom-crafted totem pole and an
all-inclusive trip to the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, running September
To be held at British Columbia's Museum of Anthropology from 6:30 p.m. to
9 p.m., the event is a fundraiser for sport for Canadians with a physical
disability at the grassroots level.
The Canadian Paralympic Dreams Event features gourmet food and drink, a
string quartet and an auction. Auction items include a one-of-a-kind,
eight-foot totem pole specially created for the winning bidder by
world-renowned artist and carver Michael Dangeli (Goothl Ts'imilx), of the
Nisga'a, Tlingit and Tsimshian Nations. Dangeli has also crafted and donated a
face mask and an original painting for auction. All attendees will receive a
limited-edition, signed print of the painting.
Guests will also be treated to an exclusive tour of the museum, and a
performance by the Git Hayetsk Dancers.
Other items up for auction are two VIP packages to the Beijing 2008
Paralympic Games, including round-trip airfare, five-star accommodation, Games
tickets, local transportation and a guide; two spots on the Paralympic torch
relay that comes to Vancouver in August 2008; the chance to ski, curl or play
sledge hockey with Paralympic athletes at Paralympic 2010 Games venues; two
sets of Paralympic clothing for the Beijing Games; guided tours of the
2010 Olympic and Paralympic sites; a Wayne Gretzky autographed jersey; and two
executive class round-trip tickets to London, England with a week at a
four-star hotel there.
The Canadian Paralympic Dreams Event is being hosted by event honourary
co-chairs UBC President and Vice-Chancellor Stephen Toope and Davis LLP
Partner Frank Borowicz. It will be the only dedicated Paralympic fundraising
event in British Colombia in 2008. Tickets are $250 each.
