Beyond Belief for 40 years

OTTAWA, Oct. 3 /CNW Telbec/ - The public is invited to join the Humanist
Association of Ottawa at a banquet Saturday October 18th, with entertainment
by comedian David Pryde, celebrating the fortieth anniversary of the Humanist
Association of Canada.
The ancient Greek philosopher Democritus was among the first to assert
that atheists could lead ethical and meaningful lives based on principles
informed by rationalism and free thought, without dogma, mysticism, or appeals
to the supernatural. Humanism is guided by reason and scientific inquiry,
inspired by music and art, and motivated by ethics, compassion and fairness.
Notable humanists in Canada are Dr. Henry Morgentaler, co-founder and
first president of the Humanist Association of Canada, Pierre Berton, June
Callwood, Dr. Robert Buckman, and Professor Chris diCarlo.

The Humanist Association of Canada, is active in promoting separation of
religion and state, gay rights, abortion rights, euthanasia, and a single
public school system. Its officiants provide secular weddings and funerals.
