Best Buy Mobile Opens First Stores in Canada



    
    Best Buy's new mobile phone store format creates a unique and
    unparalleled shopping experience for Canadian consumers
    

    TORONTO and BURNABY, BC, Sept. 18 /CNW/ - Best Buy Canada, the fastest
growing retailer and e-tailer of consumer electronics in Canada, opens the
first Best Buy Mobile store in Canada tomorrow. It is one of many that will
open in shopping centers across the country. The new Best Buy Mobile stores
will sell an unprecedented selection of mobile phones, plans, accessories and
related items all in one place - a format unique to Best Buy. The first three
stand-alone stores are in Vaughan Mills, opening Friday, September 19, and
Fairview Mall and Square One Shopping Centre opening later this fall.
    The new Best Buy Mobile store concept will harness the iconic power of
the Best Buy brand that Canadians have grown to trust and will:

    
    -   Give the customer Canada's best selection of phones and carry all
        Canadian networks
    -   Be staffed by informed, impartial, non-commissioned mobile phone
        specialists
    -   Offer straightforward information on pricing
    -   Be there for our customers for the life of their phone
    

    Best Buy Mobile expansion plans also include upgrading the mobile
sections of select Best Buy stores across Canada for the Best Buy Mobile
"store-within-a-store" concept. This new section within Best Buy's current
retail stores will offer more selection; have dedicated team members, and a no
pressure, non-commissioned sales environment. The Best Buy Mobile
store-within-a-store concepts are now open in Best Buy stores in Langley,
British Columbia, Edmonton, Alberta, and Oakville, Ontario.
    "The relationship between a consumer and their mobile device is strong -
one third of Canadians say it's critical to function in their daily lives. And
yet, the relationship between that consumer and the service provider is

change service plans, upgrade handsets, and even understand their monthly
phone bill. Best Buy Mobile will be there for the life of your phone, and
address all of the frustrations that come up during the course of your
relationship with your phone."
    The unique Best Buy Mobile Walk Out Working(TM) program provides
multi-media and smart phone set up and personalization - such as email set-up
and data transfer - ensuring the new mobile device is ready to use
immediately.
    At the core of the Best Buy Mobile model is intense staff development.
Best Buy Mobile staff is hired exclusively for the wireless unit, and every
employee undergoes dozens of hours of offsite and in-store training, learning
every handset and plans from multiple carriers. Training includes role play
and testing to keep up with trends and product launches. So far, the company
has spent more than a quarter million hours and invested millions of dollars
in training.
    Best Buy Mobile standalone stores will average approximately 1,800 square
feet, while the store-within-a-store concept will be located near the current
wireless section and feature approximately 800 square feet of display space.
Both standalone and store-within-a-store concepts will include:
