Best Buy Announces Canadian Launch of the Reward Zone Loyalty Program

Comprehensive loyalty program with exclusive benefits set to
differentiate Best Buy brand in Canada's consumer electronics retail
    industry

BURNABY, BC, Oct. 5 /CNW/ - Best Buy is proud to announce today's
official launch of Reward Zone in Canada. Reward Zone is a customer loyalty
program that rewards members with points for purchases made in Best Buy stores
or online at BestBuy.ca. Members earn one point for nearly every dollar they
spend at Best Buy or on BestBuy.ca. Points are cashed out in the form of
reward certificates redeemable for future in-store purchases. The Reward Zone
Loyalty Program carries no membership fees and members need to make just one
Best Buy purchase per calendar year to continue their membership. In addition
to points, program members will receive exclusive offers, entry into
sweepstakes and invitations to member-only sales. Members will also be given
pre-sale opportunities for some of the most sought-after new product releases
and access to future entertainment events sponsored by Best Buy.
Although today marks the official launch of the program, Reward Zone has
been available for enrolment in Best Buy Canada stores for the past three
weeks. Since then, more than 80,000 people have joined. Reward Zone has been
offered by Best Buy in the U.S. since 2003 and now has more than
24,000,000 members, making it one of the nation's largest retail loyalty
programs. Best Buy Canada's goal is to acquire 400,000 members by the end of
2007.
"We've known for quite some time that we have a large, loyal customer
base. Now we are thrilled to be able to show our appreciation by offering the
many fantastic benefits Reward Zone has to offer," says Nicolle Scavuzzo,
Senior Manager Customer Centricity at Best Buy. "Based on the incredible
response we've already received, we anticipate an outstanding level of
enrolment as we move into the biggest shopping season of the year. And we've
planned a wide array of promotions specifically targeted to this membership
base."
Scavuzzo adds that the program is a major differentiator for the Best Buy
brand as no other consumer electronics retailer in Canada currently offers its
customers a loyalty program that combines direct savings on future purchases
with an extensive list of exclusive benefits.
"For example, our Reward Zone members have already experienced the
exclusive opportunities that membership provides. Last week, members were
offered an incredible pre-sale ticket opportunity for the UNICEF "Unite
Against Aids" concert in Montreal with headline act Avril Lavigne, featuring
Sarah McLachlan and others. As the exclusive sponsor of the Artist Meet and
Greet Reception for this concert, Best Buy was the only source for advance
tickets," says Scavuzzo.
"Sign-up and participation in Reward Zone is easy and hassle-free," she
adds. "Consumers are really missing out if they are passionate about new
technology and entertainment and they don't sign up!"
Best Buy will celebrate the official launch of Reward Zone with a massive
giveaway of 8 $10,000 shopping sprees throughout October (full details on how
to enter can be found at www.bestbuy.ca/rewardzone) and will continue to offer
points sweepstakes and contests to drive additional member enrollment.
