Bell Celebrity Gala raises $1 million for SickKids Foundation

TORONTO, Ontario, Oct. 5 /CNW Telbec/ - Bell Canada today announced that
the 2007 Bell Celebrity Gala raised $1 million for SickKids Foundation, in
support of The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids).
More than 1,800 guests and more than 100 Canadian and international
celebrities from the worlds of entertainment, sports and media attended last
night's gala, a fundraising cornerstone of Bell Canada's five-year,
$10-million commitment to the Foundation. That commitment, announced in 2005,
includes $5 million in proceeds from the gala and the Bell Celebrity Golf
Tournament, matched by a $5 million corporate gift to be contributed over the
five years.
Since 1977, Bell has partnered in numerous programs that help SickKids
provide world-class care for children. Those include support for hospital
fundraising campaigns, a pilot telehealth child home care project and the
hospital's multimedia theatre in the newly renovated Cardiac Diagnostic and
Interventional Unit.
"SickKids is a world-renowned place of research, healing and hope in the
heart of our community," said Bell CEO Michael Sabia. "It's a place where
thousands of dedicated people give their best every day, making sure every
child who enters SickKids has a fighting chance to reach his or her potential.
That's critically important work for our lives today and for our future."
"Bell Canada continues to be a great friend to SickKids," said
Michael O'Mahoney, President, SickKids Foundation. "Support from organizations
like Bell Canada and from our community of donors is what enables SickKids to
improve the lives of the children and families who rely on us each and every
day."
SickKids is one of the largest paediatric health and scientific research
centres in the world. Approximately 100,000 patients are treated at the
hospital each year. Close to 50,000 children are treated in the Emergency
Department alone. SickKids cares for children from all over Canada and from
more than 40 countries each year.

The Bell Celebrity Gala is the winner of the 2004, 2005 and 2006 Canadian
Event Industry's STAR Award for Best Event Produced for a Charitable
Organization in Canada.
