The Becel Love Your Heart Benefit Concerts will feature solo performances
by Diana Krall, Chantal Kreviazuk, Isabelle Boulay and Laurence Jalbert
TORONTO, Feb. 9 /CNW/ - This April 23rd, Canadians will be invited to an
evening that will help inspire and empower a nation. In what may be the
biggest single event of its kind in Canadian history, Becel will host a
cross-country, one-night music celebration to raise awareness of women and
heart health. Eighty-six locations across Canada will come to life with songs
and heartfelt stories, encouraging women to take the steps necessary to reduce
their risk of heart disease and stroke.
Two live benefit concerts, one in Toronto and the other in Montreal, will
provide the foundation for 84 live in-theatre simulcasts. It is to these
simulcast locations that Becel is inviting Canadians, especially women, to
come, bring a friend and share in an evening of hope and inspiration where
they will learn about making the simple, small lifestyle changes that can help
make a big difference in the health of their hearts.
"Through the simulcast events we want women to hear the songs, share the
stories and begin making lifestyle changes that could help reduce their risk
of heart disease by up to 80 per cent," said Margaret McKellar, Becel Brand
Manager. "We want women to know that the power to help save a life is within
them, that by doing one small thing each day to love their hearts, they can
begin to reduce their risk of heart disease and stroke."
Beginning February 1st until mid-March, specially-marked packages of
Becel will have a PIN that can be redeemed online at www.loveyourheart.ca for
two free tickets to the simulcast at a participating theatre. For each PIN
activated, Becel will donate $1 to the Heart and Stroke Foundation's The Heart
Truth(TM) campaign, to a maximum of $100,000.
The two live concerts, one French and the other English, will take place
on the evening of April 23rd and will be simulcast the same evening in 84
participating Cineplex and Empire Theatres across the country. The Toronto
concert will be held at the Elgin Winter Garden and will feature solo
performances by Diana Krall, Chantal Kreviazuk and friends. The French concert
will be held in Montreal at La Tohu and will feature Isabelle Boulay and
Diana Krall will be touring in support of her new CD entitled "Quiet
Nights" (available March 31st). She has embraced the cause and two dollars for
every ticket sold to her "Quiet Nights" World Tour 2009 will be proudly
donated to the Heart and Stroke Foundation's The Heart Truth campaign, with
special thanks to founding sponsor Becel.
According to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, heart disease and stroke
are the leading cause of death for Canadian women and their most serious
health concern, but most don't know it.
Becel's hope is that women feel empowered to make small changes and to
share this heart health information with their friends and family. On February
13th, to help empower and facilitate these changes, Becel will also launch the
'Do One Small Thing' section on www.loveyourheart.ca. This section will assist
women with insights, support, information and ideas and will also contain a
variety of tools that can be personalized, and are designed to be actionable
A proud supporter of the Heart and Stroke Foundation (HSF) for more than
20 years, Becel has been involved in a number programs including being the
founding sponsor of The Heart Truth campaign, title sponsor of the annual
Becel Heart and Stroke Ride for Heart and sponsor of a number of strategic
educational initiatives and collateral materials targeting physicians,
dietitians and consumers.
