    Maclean's Magazine and The Toronto Star Select Bayer Inc. as Top Employer
    For 2008

    TORONTO, Oct. 9 /CNW/ - Bayer Inc. announced today that it was selected
one of Canada's Top 100 Employers for 2008 by Maclean's Magazine and one of
Greater Toronto's Top 50 Employers for 2008 by the Toronto Star.

    Bayer's submission to Maclean's highlighted several initiatives that make
Bayer unique and demonstrated the organization's commitment to its employees.

    Life At Work

    Bayer's Life At Work program was specifically designed to provide
employees with the support and resources they need to live well at work. In
2007, Bayer consolidated new and existing programs under the banner "Life At
Work". The Bayer Life At Work program includes a newly renovated fitness
centre offering free fitness classes, a new multi-purpose court, putting green
and driving range, a quiet room, and a lounge complete with foosball,
billiards and a large flat screen T.V.
    This collection of programs and resources on-site gives employees the
ability to recharge their batteries throughout the day, increasing
productivity and helping them achieve a solid work/life balance.

    Community Partnerships

    Bayer Inc. is a proud supporter of the United Way and in 2006 was among
the top ten per cent of companies who supported their community through the
United Way.
    In 2007, Bayer formed a partnership with a local school, North Kipling
Junior Middle School (NKJMS), to provide employees opportunities to give back
to the community beyond financial donations. NKJMS is located in a high need
area of Toronto and faces unique challenges. Bayer's new partnership gives
employees the opportunity to volunteer in a variety of school programs
including the Breakfast Club, which provides a hot, nutritionally balanced
breakfast to about 100 children every morning, the Lunch Club, a first for the
school, as well as one-on-one mentoring. This partnership is the first of its
kind for both Bayer and the school.
