Toronto Lawyers Hold Rock & Roll fundraiser for the Canadian Foundation
for AIDS Research on October 3rd
TORONTO, Sept. 25 /CNW/ - What do Toronto's Bay Street lawyers and Miss
Universe Canada have in common? A passion for rocking out and the goal of
ending AIDS through research. They'll get to do both at AIDSbeat 2008 on
Friday, October 3, at Koolhaus. AIDSbeat is the Toronto Legal Community's
annual rock & roll bash in support of AIDS research. Each year more than 1,200
of Toronto's greatest legal minds let loose and raise over $200,000 for the
Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research (CANFAR).
"AIDSbeat XIII is going to be the biggest, and most outrageously fun
event we have held to date," says Patricia Olasker, AIDSbeat founder and
co-chair. "This event brings out the heart, soul and fun-loving side of
Toronto's lawyers. The legal community is very proud to come together every
year in support of HIV/AIDS research and CANFAR." Since inception, AIDSbeat
has raised over $1.2 million for AIDS research. AIDSbeat's move to Koolhaus
reflects the ongoing growth in the event, which brings together over 1,200
people gathered together for a great party.
The beautiful Samantha Tajik Miss Universe Canada 2008 will join National
Post Legal Post writer Jim Middlemiss and the wonderfully talented AJ Sovani
of MTV Canada as celebrity judges of the BATTLE OF THE BANDS. Mark Holmes of
Mod Club fame will host the party, featuring the famous and eye-catching
AIDSbeat dancers, painted body models, performance art and tunes spun by
master of the decks DJ DaSilva.
Five bands, all featuring lawyers-by-day, will lay out their best
material for the crowd. Prepare to put your hands together for:
- Hung Jury (Torys LLP, Gowlings LLP, Paliare Roland LLP)
- DisORderly Conduct (Ogilvy Renault LLP)
- The Insecurities (Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP)
- Nunk Pro Funk (Cassels Brock LLP)
AIDSbeat 2007 champs The Gavelheads (Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP, Ernst
& Young LLP and Lamont Law) will open the show at 8pm sharp.
