Barenaked Ladies, Matt Dusk, John McDermott, Stewart Goodyear, and Michael Burgess on Stage at Roy Thomson Hall, October 15, 2007

Distinguished alumni of St. Michael's Choir School unite for Special 70th
    anniversary Benefit Concert

TORONTO, Sept. 24 /CNW/ - TD Canada Trust and the alumni of St. Michael's
Choir School are proud to announce a unique musical experience celebrating the
success and diversity of the school on the occasion of its 70th anniversary.
"A Gift of Music - From Tradition to Tomorrow" will take place on Monday,
October 15 and feature the Barenaked Ladies, Matt Dusk, John McDermott,
Michael Burgess and Stewart Goodyear with the Canada Pops Orchestra and the
boys of St. Michael's Choir School.
"On behalf of TD Canada Trust, we are delighted to support this unique
and very special concert," said Brian Haier, Executive Vice President of
Retail Banking for TD Canada Trust and St. Michael's Choir School alumnus,
Class of 1976.
Frankly, what's so amazing about these performers is that they all trace
their musical roots back to the Choir School. It's a proud and important
legacy for Toronto and, indeed for this province and country that a relatively
small school has made such a strong cultural contribution to the world of
music," Haier added.
Crooner Matt Dusk (Choir School alumnus, Class of 1997) said: "I am so
excited to be coming back to Toronto with these other great alumni acts to
support and celebrate the Choir School. No matter where I go, I always
remember the important start in music that I got from St. Michael's Choir
School."
Since 1937, St. Michael's Choir School has produced some of Canada's best
known musical performers. In addition to graduates Kevin Hearn (performing
with the Barenaked Ladies), singers Michael Burgess, John McDermott, Matt Dusk
and pianist Stewart Goodyear, the Choir School also spawned the careers of the
Crew Cuts, the Four Lads, the Nylons, jazz pianist John Arpin, world-renowned
tenor Michael Schade, violinist Stephen Sitarski and conductors Peter Dala and
Janko Kastelic.
