TORONTO, Nov. 19 /CNW/ - Barclays Global Investors Canada Limited
(Barclays Canada) announces today the estimated annual capital gains
distributions for the iShares Funds for the 2007 tax year. Please note that
these are estimated amounts only as of October 31, 2007 and include
forward-looking information which may cause the estimates to change before the
Funds' December 15 tax year-end. These estimates are for the year-end capital
gains distributions only, which are typically reinvested rather than paid in
cash, and do not include estimates of ongoing quarterly, semi-annual or annual
cash distribution amounts.
We expect to announce the final year-end distribution amounts, as well as
the quarterly, semi-annual and annual cash distribution amounts, on or about
December 18. The record date for the 2007 annual distributions will be
December 28. The distributions will be paid/reinvested on December 31, and the
ex-dividend date will be December 24. The actual taxable amounts of reinvested
and cash distributions for 2007, including the tax characteristics of the
distributions, will be reported to brokers (through CDS) in early 2008.

Reasons for some of the larger estimated capital gains distributions

    XGD & XMD

The iShares CDN Gold Index Fund (XGD) and iShares CDN Completion Index
Fund (XMD) experienced relatively larger capital gains than expected in 2007,
mostly due to changes made by Standard and Poor's during the 2007 tax year to
the methodology of the respective indexes which XGD and XMD track. XGD's index
changed from an index which only included Canadian gold companies to a more
diversified index which now includes global gold companies. XMD's index
changed from an index which only included Canadian mid capitalization
companies to a more diversified index which now includes Canadian mid and
small capitalization companies. The process of restructuring the respective
iShares Funds' portfolios to adjust to the new methodologies resulted in some
selling of securities which generated capital gains.

    XIT

The iShares CDN Info Tech Index Fund (XIT) experienced relatively larger
capital gains than expected in 2007, mostly due to reducing the weight of
Research in Motion as this security reached the 25% cap implemented on XIT to
help provide diversification. RIM's price has increased over 100% this year.

    XSP, XSU, XIN

iShares CDN S&P 500(R) Index Fund (XSP), iShares CDN Russell 2000(R)
Index Fund (XSU) and iShares CDN MSCI(R) EAFE(R) Index Fund (XIN) all
experienced relatively large capital gains due to the strength of the Canadian
dollar in relation to the US dollar (for XSP and XSU) and to an international
basket of currencies (for XIN) in 2007. Because the currency exposure of these
Funds is hedged to the Canadian dollar, and the hedging is implemented using
forward currency contracts which are reset monthly, a rising Canadian dollar
will result in gains for these iShares Funds. However, the hedging added
significant value to these Funds this year versus and unhedged strategy.

    Forward-looking information

This press release contains forward-looking statements with respect to
the estimated annual distributions for the iShares Funds. By their nature,
these forward-looking statements involve risks and uncertainties that could
cause the actual distributions to differ materially from those contemplated by
the forward-looking statements. Material factors that could cause the actual
distributions to differ from the estimated distributions between now and
December 15 (the iShares Funds' tax year ends), include, but are not limited
to: the actual amounts of distributions received by the iShares Funds; the
actual amounts of capital gains generated from sales of securities; trading
activity within the iShares Funds, including buying and selling of securities;
index changes which cause rebalancing within the iShares Funds; and
subscription and redemption activity.
