Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting accredited by The Society of Management Accountants of Canada (CMA Canada)

Accounting excellence in the spotlight at Kwantlen Polytechnic University

SURREY, BC, Oct. 23 /CNW/ - CMA Canada, the world leader in shaping
strategic management accounting professionals to lead successful enterprises
in the global marketplace has awarded, for a five-year period, the
accreditation of the Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting at
Kwantlen Polytechnic University located in British Columbia.
CMA Canada is the first professional accounting organization in North
America to accredit programs at leading universities. These programs, which
provide complete coverage of the CMA Competency Map Entrance Requirements,
equip students with in-depth knowledge and skills in management accounting,
financial accounting, financial management and taxation, strategic management,
and risk management and governance. These skills are required for mastering
the advanced concepts covered in CMA Canada's Strategic Leadership Program,
leading to the prestigious CMA designation.
Beginning in 2000, CMA Canada implemented an accreditation process to
recognize institutions that offer quality educational programs according to
prescribed standards. Accreditation by CMA Canada offers universities a
measurement process that is based on self-evaluation and peer review, coupled
with external evaluation by CMA Canada. "The accreditation renewal of Kwantlen
Polytechnic University's Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting
program is a testament to the university's School of Business meeting the
demanding accreditation requirements set out by CMA Canada," said Steve
Vieweg, CMA, FCMA, President and CEO of CMA Canada. "The school offers
innovative approaches to course design and delivery, supported by outstanding
faculty resources, effective evaluation of student performance, and a
commitment to continuing quality education."

Being amongst an exclusive group, one of many benefits

Vieweg confirmed that Kwantlen Polytechnic University is among an
exclusive group of universities across Canada to have an undergraduate
accounting program accredited by CMA Canada.
Dr. Arthur Coren, Dean of the School of Business for Kwantlen Polytechnic
University notes, "There are many benefits to accreditation, but three stand
out. First, CMA accreditation signals to employers, the accounting profession
and to the government that our program, and our graduates meet a high quality
standard. Second, it allows Kwantlen to attract top students who are
interested in the CMA designation. And third, it provides our CMA aspirants
with tangible benefits such as an exemption for the first part of the CMA
Entrance Examination."
Students who successfully complete the Bachelor of Business
Administration in Accounting with a minimum grade point average of 75 per cent
are exempt from writing the CMA Entrance Examination. This select group of
students will enter directly into the Strategic Leadership Program, the last
step required to obtain the CMA designation.
"The intent of CMA Canada accreditation is not to produce a standardized
accounting or business curriculum. Instead, we encourage universities to adopt
creative approaches to course design and delivery, since innovation is
considered indicative of a commitment to continuous improvement," said Colin
Bennett, CMA, FCMA, President and CEO of CMA British Columbia.
Vieweg emphasized that CMA Canada accreditation of programs at leading
universities sets the standard for quality education in business and
accounting in Canada, "Kwantlen Polytechnic University exemplifies this
standard, and is to be commended for the outstanding quality of its
instruction and its graduates."
