TORONTO, March 12 /CNW/ - ECW Press has acquired the rights to a new
biography of Conrad Black by award-winning journalist and historian George
Tombs. Baron Black of Crossharbour: Trial by Fire, will be published in
Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom later this year. This
unauthorized, hard-hitting book will provide exclusive new details, insights,
and revelations about Conrad Black and his criminal trial for fraud,
obstruction of justice, and racketeering, starting in Chicago on March 14.
Baron Black will be released after the verdict of the trial.
Tombs is the only biographer of Black to have interviewed him extensively
and to have maintained personal contact with him over the last six years, as
shareholder activists turfed Black out of the executive suite of Hollinger
International, a newspaper empire that included The Daily Telegraph, The
Chicago Sun-Times, The Jerusalem Post, and The National Post. Tombs has also
gotten to know Black's close family and friends, associates, former
executives, and employees, and his most ferocious critics and adversaries.
This rigorous and objective book profiles the man behind the headlines -
Black's actions, his motivations, the extraordinary high-profile criminal
trial about to start, and the meaning of the ultimate verdict. The book will
draw on information published in an earlier biography of Black by Mr. Tombs,
