A&W Celebrates Uncle's Day Across Canada on April 19, 2009

"Canada's Ultimate Uncle" declared from over 50,000 entries

VANCOUVER, April 17 /CNW/ - A&W Food Services of Canada Inc. will be
celebrating uncles across the country this Sunday, April 19. Among those
celebrating will be Stephen Davidson of Anmore, B.C., the grand prize winner
of Canada's Ultimate Uncle Contest for nominating his Uncle Truman.
Launched on February 16, 2009, the Ultimate Uncle Contest asked customers
to tell A&W why they feel they have Canada's "Ultimate Uncle". A&W received
over 50,000 entries to the contest through ballot boxes in restaurants and
entries submitted on-line at www.uncleburger.ca.
"Canadians of all ages submitted their warm, heartfelt and humorous
stories about their uncles' generosity, dedication and, most of all
uniqueness," said Paul Hollands, President and CEO at A&W Food Services of
Canada Inc. "We're thrilled that the Uncle Burger(TM) has provided our
customers with the opportunity to create and share so many special moments
with their favourite uncles."
A&W will celebrate Davidson's "Uncle Truman" - and all the other beloved
uncles across Canada - by providing the first 1,000 customers to visit each
A&W restaurant from coast-to-coast this Sunday with an Uncle's Day greeting
card which includes a special coupon for a free fries and regular soft drink
with the purchase of an Uncle Burger.
In describing his Ultimate Uncle, Davidson wrote, "My Uncle Truman is
funny, intelligent, talkative and definitely weird ... with brown hair and a
Mario moustache. He's exciting to be around and enjoys doing exciting things
with us."
Davidson continues to describe his golfing, rollerblading, and other
sports and food-related adventures and misadventures with his Uncle Truman.
His entry also shares how his Uncle Truman is such a special and caring
person, being a District Principal of Special Education. Davidson will now
enjoy an all expenses paid trip for four to The Fairmont Banff Springs hotel
in Banff, Alberta.
"Canadians can celebrate their uncles or honorary uncles by sending them
an electronic Uncle's Day e-card or printing an Uncle Burger coupon by
visiting www.uncleburger.ca." said David Waterfall, Director of Marketing at
A&W Food Services of Canada Inc. "At A&W, we believe every day's the perfect
day to celebrate good food, good friends and Ultimate Uncles."
Six regional prize winners will also be selected as runners-up in the
Ultimate Uncle Contest, who will each receive a dinner for 20 of their
favourite friends and family at their local A&W.

A&W Food Services of Canada Inc. is 100 per cent Canadian owned and is
one of the strongest brand names in the Canadian foodservice industry. A&W is
the nation's second largest hamburger restaurant company with more than 690
locations coast-to-coast. A&W Restaurants feature famous trade-marked menu
items such as The Burger Family(R), Chubby Chicken(R), and A&W Root Beer(R).
