Atomic Energy of Canada Limited Releases Special Examination Report



    MISSISSAUGA, ON, Jan. 9 /CNW/ - Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL)
announced that the AECL Board of Directors approved the release of the special
examination report at 1:30 p.m. today as part of its regularly scheduled
January meeting.
    The special examination was conducted by the Office of the Auditor
General in keeping with its obligations for regular reviews under the
Financial Administration Act. The report was submitted to AECL by the Auditor
General in September 2007. An electronic version of the special examination
report can be downloaded through AECL's website at
http://www.aecl.ca/About/Governance/Reports-Gov.htm.
    Today's meeting was the first of the newly constituted board of AECL, and
follows the recently announced appointments to the board, including new Chair,
Glenna Carr and new President and CEO, Hugh MacDiarmid. A priority for the new
appointees was to familiarize themselves with all current activities at AECL
as well as review the special examination report and ensure appropriate
management actions are in place to address the Auditor General's
recommendations.
    AECL management has initiated actions to address all of the
recommendations included in the report and will continue to monitor the
corporation's progress.
