At Place du Canada - Operation "Let's get involved with nature"

MONTREAL, June 19, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - On Tuesday, the Montréal Space for Life is arranging a get-together at Place du Canada (near René-Lévesque Blvd. and Peel St.) on the theme of "Let's get involved with nature," an operation designed to raise awareness about biodiversity, about its importance and its fragility. Starting at 6:30 this morning and until 6:30 p.m., red life preservers encircle some thirty trees, multicolored chairs are laid out here and there inviting passers-by to enjoy a break, while the twittering of birds, the croaking of frogs and the sound of waves transport visitors to the very heart of nature. With a few days to go until the opening at the Botanical Garden of the Base Camp of the 1000 Days for the Planet mission, this is a fun-filled opportunity for people to come together and celebrate our commitment to biodiversity!

Nature S.O.S.
The approach of summer is the perfect time for us to be renewing our connections with nature. The operation "Let's get involved with nature" is intended to awaken our curiosity and to heighten our awareness of the issues confronting the biodiversity on our planet. In the face of the threat that looms over an ever-increasing number of animal and plant species, changing our behaviours has become a matter of urgency. It is our turn, right now, to get involved and to protect that diversity. The red life preservers ringing the trees - symbolizing a call for help for nature in jeopardy - remind us as well of the Sedna IV and its mission to raise consciousness, again, to the beauty and fragility of biodiversity.

The Botanical Garden: Base Camp for the 1000 Days for the Planet mission
On June 22 at the Botanical Garden, the Base Camp for the 1000 Days for the Planet mission, presented by Radio-Canada, will be welcoming its first visitors. For a three-year period, the Base Camp will allow for live communication with and for sharing the adventures and encounters of the crew of the Sedna IV. That boat, with Jean Lemire aboard, criss-crosses the oceans in order to bear witness to the extraordinary diversity of life on our planet and the fragile balance in which it finds itself. The countdown has begun: be on the lookout for further details!

The 1000 Days for the Planet Base Camp is presented by Radio-Canada.
