At Last! Ice Cream That's Good For You!

Canadian young entrepreneurs create award-winning high protein, low fat,
    mineral fortified frozen yogurt

BURLINGTON, ON, June 17 /CNW/ - Chris Delaney and Amanda House have beat
the odds and created the perfect frozen snack. Packed with superior nutrition,
and boasting an award-winning ice cream taste, YoPRO, the original low fat,
high protein super premium frozen yogurt is setting a new standard for frozen
treats.
Conceived by Delaney, a former firefighter, now a legally blind
accomplished athlete and humanitarian, and Amanda House, a Certified
Kinesiologist and Certified Personal Training Specialist, the two
entrepreneurs are very excited about the recent success YoPRO has received.
"In such a highly competitive industry dominated by industry giants, it
is very rewarding to see the excitement that YoPRO is creating among consumers
and those in the grocery industry," said Delaney, co-founder, YoPRO Treats
Inc. Just recently launched, YoPRO is off to a very impressive start. YoPRO
has already received the LIVERight award for Best Dessert Item 2008 by the
Canadian Liver Foundation, People's Pick Award for Best Overall Product at the
2008 Good Food Festival, and has been named as a finalist in the Dessert
Category for the 2007 Canadian Grand Prix New Products Awards. YoPRO Treats
Inc. has also been named one of the Top 10 Innovators by Food In Canada
Magazine (May 2008).
"Ice cream and frozen yogurt have never been nutritious. Consumers are
becoming increasingly more health conscious and aware of the importance of a
healthy and well-balanced diet. With this in mind, we created a product that
rivals the taste of super premium ice creams; but without the guilt," said
House, President and co-founder, YoPRO Treats.

What makes YoPRO different from other frozen snacks?

With traditional ice creams and frozen yogurts offering very little or no
nutritional value, YoPRO provides the highest quality whey proteins and rich
amounts of essential minerals. In fact, YoPRO provides up to 16 times more
protein than any other frozen snack on the market.

    YoPRO's health benefits include:

    - High Protein (up to 16g per 1/2 cup) - High in Potassium
    - Low Fat - High in Iron (chocolate)
    - No Trans Fat - Source of Energy
    - Low in Saturated Fat - No Artificial Ingredients
    - High in Calcium - Peanut/Nut Free
    - Kosher
    - Part of the Heart and Stroke Foundation's
      Health Check(TM) program

"Our bodies are built on protein and minerals," said House. Protein is
essential for building immune system health, building and repairing muscles
and tissues, promoting healthy skin, hair and nails, and assisting with weight
management. In addition to its importance for strong bones and teeth, calcium
also assists with muscle contraction; potassium helps to control blood
pressure; and iron delivers oxygen to every cell in the body.
"Between us, we have 25 years experience in the sports and health field,
helping others live healthy lives. So when, on a hot day, Amanda wished that
ice cream wasn't so high in fat and so low in healthful ingredients,
inspiration struck," said Delaney.
From there, the two enlisted the services of the Guelph Food Technology
Centre (GFTC). "Chris and Amanda had an ambitious goal," explains Robert Swan,
project manager, GFTC. "Most ice cream has very little protein, and functions
quite differently during processing than high protein products do, so first we
investigated the technical feasibility of the concept. Then we developed
prototypes to find the right balance of ingredients, nutritional value, and
functionality." Once their product met their satisfaction, House and Delaney
filed for an international patent and brought it to Stoney Creek Dairy in
Stoney Creek, Ontario, where it would be fine-tuned and produced.
YoPRO has captured the attention of the country's leading retailers, and
is now available across Ontario at Loblaws, Fortinos, Real Canadian
Superstores, Valu-Marts, Your Independent Grocers, Zehrs, Sam's Club, Whole
Foods Market, Pusateri's Fine Foods, and many others. Suggested retail price
is $5.99-$6.49 per 500mL pint.
YoPRO's appearance on the shelves of mainstream chains proves that this
isn't just a product for health nuts and athletes. "Everyone is looking for
function out of their food these days," said House.
