April is "Earth Month" at Wal-Mart Canada

Company shares commitment to environmental sustainability with
                         customers throughout month

MISSISSAUGA, ON, March 31 /CNW/ - Earth Day falls on April 22 but
Wal-Mart Canada is making the whole month of April "Earth Month." The company
will use the month-long celebration to make several announcements in the area
of sustainability and to promote environmental awareness among its customers.
"April is our formal celebration of sustainability and an opportunity for
us to share with Canadians and our customers what we're doing for the
environment every day," says Vi Konkle, Wal-Mart Canada's chief customer
officer. "As the country becomes even more focused on the environment in the
lead-up to Earth Day, it's also our chance to advocate environmentally
preferable products and sustainable practices to the over one million
customers we serve every day."
Since 2005, Wal-Mart has been actively involved in environmental
sustainability and working towards three long-term goals globally and in
Canada:

    1. To produce zero waste;
    2. To be powered 100 per cent by renewable energy; and,
    3. To make more environmentally preferable products available to
       customers.

Wal-Mart Canada unofficially kicked off its Earth Month celebration by
participating in Earth Hour on March 29. The company reduced its sales floor
lighting by one-third, in all but a few stores nationally, as a symbolic
gesture of its wider commitment to reducing its environmental footprint and
promoting sustainability among stakeholders.
