OTTAWA, Aug. 6 /CNW Telbec/ - The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of
Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister responsible for the
Royal Canadian Mint, today announced the appointment of Ms. Bonnie
Staples-Lyon of Winnipeg as a member of the board of directors of the Royal
Canadian Mint for a term of four years.
"I am pleased that Ms. Staples-Lyon has agreed to serve as a director of
the Royal Canadian Mint," said Minister Cannon. "Her experience in business
and communications will be an asset to the organization."
Ms. Staples-Lyon studied journalism at the Southern Alberta Institute of
Technology in Calgary, Alberta. Over her career, she has held a variety of
communications positions in several ministries in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
She joined Manitoba Telecom Services Inc. in 2000, where she was
vice-president, corporate affairs and communications. In 2007, she founded her
own company, Staples-Lyon Communications Inc., of which she is president.
The Royal Canadian Mint is a for-profit Crown corporation responsible for
the production of all circulation coinage in Canada. It also produces
circulation and numismatic coins, and investment coins and products for
domestic and international customers. As one of the largest refiners of
precious metals in the world, it refines, assays and stores gold and silver
for Canadian and foreign customers. The Mint is among the most advanced
minting operations in the world, employing over 770 people at its Ottawa
headquarters and at its Winnipeg production facility.
