Appointment to the Royal Canadian Mint



    OTTAWA, Oct. 12 /CNW Telbec/ - The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister
of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the appointment
of Mr. Carman Joynt to the board of directors of the Royal Canadian Mint for a
term of four years.
    "I am very pleased that Mr. Joynt has accepted this appointment," said
Minister Cannon. "All Canadians will benefit from the expertise he brings to
the board of this national Crown corporation."
    Mr. Joynt worked as an audit partner with Deloitte & Touche Chartered
Accountants and Deloitte & Touche Management Consultants for many years. It
was the culmination of a career that began when Mr. Joynt graduated from
Carleton University in 1966 with a bachelor of commerce degree. He became a
Fellow Chartered Accountant in 1969 and was admitted to partnership with
Deloitte & Touche in 1975. Mr. Joynt has also served the public in various
volunteer roles, including as past chair of the Ottawa Civic Hospital
Foundation and as past director of the Home Hospital of Ottawa-Carleton.
    The Royal Canadian Mint is a commercial Crown corporation responsible for
the production and distribution of all of Canada's circulation coins. It also
produces foreign circulation, numismatic and bullion coins for domestic and
international consumers. The Mint's Ottawa and Winnipeg production facilities
are among the largest and most advanced minting operations in the world. The
Mint employs more than 700 people in the design, production and marketing of
coins.
