OTTAWA, June 28 /CNW Telbec/ - The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister
of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the appointment
of Mr. Claude F. Bennett to the board of directors of the Royal Canadian Mint,
for a period of four years.
"I am very pleased that Mr. Bennett has accepted this appointment," said
Minister Cannon. "With his many years of service to the citizens of Ontario,
he will now be able to share that expertise on a board of a national
corporation for the benefit of all Canadians."
Mr. Claude F. Bennett is a former member of the Provincial Parliament of
Ontario. He served as minister of various portfolios including Housing;
Tourism, Culture and Recreation; Industry; and Municipal Affairs. He has also
served as chair of the Ottawa MacDonald-Cartier International Airport
Authority, the Ottawa Transition Board and the Canada Mortgage and Housing
Corporation. Mr. Bennett was alderman of the City of Ottawa four times between
1960 and 1967.
The Royal Canadian Mint is a commercial Crown corporation responsible for
the production and distribution of all of Canada's circulation coins. It also
produces foreign circulation, numismatic and bullion coins for domestic and
international consumers. The Mint's Ottawa and Winnipeg production facilities
are among the largest and most advanced minting operations in the world. The
