OTTAWA, Aug. 1 /CNW Telbec/ - The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of
Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the appointment of
Mr. Richard Aubry to the board of directors of the National Capital Commission
(NCC) for a term of four years.
"I am pleased that Mr. Aubry has accepted this appointment to the NCC
board," said Minister Cannon. "His background in communications and municipal
affairs will be very beneficial to the Commission."
Mr. Richard Aubry holds a bachelor of commerce from Assumption College
(University of Western Ontario). He recently retired as publisher of Seaway
News, a weekly community newspaper in Cornwall, Ontario. He began his career
with Imperial Oil Limited and in 1968, joined St. Lawrence College where he
was a marketing instructor until 1996. In 1979 he started Transit
Communications, a bus advertising company, before co-founding Seaway News in
1985. Mr. Aubry is a former alderman and mayor of Cornwall, and was chairman
and president of Cornwall Electric while on city council.
The NCC is a Crown corporation that was created by Parliament in 1958 as
the steward of federal lands and buildings in the National Capital Region. The
NCC mandate is to prepare plans for the development, conservation and
improvement of the National Capital Region to reflect its national
significance as the seat of the Government of Canada and to organize, sponsor
and promote public activities and events in the National Capital Region to
enrich the cultural and social fabric of Canada.
