OTTAWA, May 15 /CNW Telbec/ - Canada's Transport Minister, John Baird,
today announced the appointment of Mr. John K. Bell of Cambridge, Ontario, to
the board of directors of the Royal Canadian Mint for a term of four years.
"I am pleased that Mr. Bell has agreed to serve on the Royal Canadian
Mint's board of directors," said Minister Baird. "His business experience and
talents will be great assets to the organization."
"Mr. Bell brings valuable expertise to the board," added the Honourable
Rob Merrifield, Minister of State (Transport). "I am confident he will make an
Mr. Bell has a bachelor's degree in business administration from the
University of Western Ontario's Ivey School of Business and is a member of the
Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. He has longstanding experience
in business, having founded his own company, Shred-Tech Limited, in 1977. He
later sold the company and acquired Polymer Technologies Inc. in 1996, which
he also later sold. Currently, he is chair of Onbelay Group of Companies, as
well as of BSM Wireless Inc. and the Cambridge Memorial Hospital. In addition,
he serves on the board of directors of Newport Partners Income Fund and ATS
Automation Tooling Systems.
The Royal Canadian Mint is a for-profit Crown corporation with a mandate
to produce circulation and non-circulation coins (for Canada and other
countries), manage the domestic coinage system and provide advice to the
Minister of Finance on all matters related to coinage. The mandate also
extends to the production and marketing of bullion and related refinery
products and services for profit.
