OTTAWA, Jan. 29 /CNW Telbec/ - The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister
of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the appointment
of William C. Rooney to the Atlantic Pilotage Authority board of directors,
for a period of two years.
"I am pleased that Mr. Rooney has accepted this appointment to the
Atlantic Pilotage Authority," said Minister Cannon. "I am confident that his
financial and business management experience will be valuable assets to the
continued governance and safety of our Atlantic ports."
Mr. Rooney earned a business administration degree in 1971, from the
University of Prince Edward Island in Charlottetown. From 1974 to 1984, he
worked in Revenue Canada's Special Investigative Unit, and spent the next
15 years as owner and operator of tour and travel-related businesses in the
Atlantic region. He currently offers investment advice, in a financial service
that he launched in 1994.
Over the years, Mr. Rooney has been greatly involved in community
service. He has chaired the Saint John, New Brunswick Easter Seal Campaign,
the University of Prince Edward Island Business Society and the Morell
Community Council in Prince Edward Island. He has also served on the advisory
board of the Souris hospital in Prince Edward Island and was a member of the
Rotary Club in Saint John, New Brunswick.
The Atlantic Pilotage Authority is a Crown corporation created in 1972
under the Pilotage Act. It is responsible for operating and maintaining a
safe, efficient and economical pilotage service on all coastal waters in the
Atlantic region. The Authority sets pilotage charges that allow it to operate
on a self-sustaining financial basis.
