Appeal for Witnesses in Bala Investigation



    TORONTO, May 29 /CNW/ - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is
appealing for witnesses to an incident that occurred in Bala in the early
morning hours of May 26, 2009.
    On May 26, 2009 at 1:30 a 21 year old Oakville woman interacted with
members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) - Bracebridge Detachment at the
"The Kee" in Bala. As a result of this interaction the SIU has commenced an
investigation.
    The lead investigator is interested in speaking with any member of the
public who may have witnessed this female interacting with the OPP inside or
outside the "Kee."
    Anyone with information is asked to call the SIU at 416-622-1935 or
1-800-787-8529 extension No. 1935.

    The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates cases of serious injuries
(including allegations of sexual assault) and deaths involving the police.
Pursuant to section 113 of the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU is
mandated to consider whether a criminal offence has been committed by an
officer(s) in connection with the incident under investigation and, where
warranted by the evidence, to cause a criminal charge or charges to be laid
against the officer(s). The Director reports the results of investigations to
the Attorney General.
